Africa in 1981
As of 1981, Africa counted 497,620,643 inhabitants. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 32.6%, up from 375,326,100 in 1971.
The median age was 17.4 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 86.9 children under 15 and 6.1 people aged 65 or over. The broad-based, expansive shape of the pyramid points to high fertility and strong population growth.
