Africa Population Pyramid 2003
Africa in 2003
As of 2003, Africa counted 895,734,228 inhabitants. A decade earlier, in 1993, the population was 696,621,488; it has grown by 28.6% since.
With a median age of 18.5 years, Africa had a youth dependency ratio of 78.1 and an old-age dependency ratio of 5.9 per 100 people of working age. The pyramid is expansive: its wide base of young cohorts reflects high fertility and a rapidly growing population.
