Africa Population Pyramid 2008
Africa in 2008
As of 2008, Africa counted 1,018,065,283 inhabitants. A decade earlier, in 1998, the population was 789,981,450; it has grown by 28.9% since.
With a median age of 18.8 years, Africa had a youth dependency ratio of 76.4 and an old-age dependency ratio of 5.9 per 100 people of working age. This is an expansive pyramid — each cohort of children is larger than the one above it, the signature of high birth rates and rapid growth.
