Australia in 2005

As of 2005, Australia counted 20,294,490 inhabitants. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 12.2%, up from 18,095,345 in 1995. The median age was 36.5 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 29.3 children under 15 and 19.1 people aged 65 or over. This is a stationary pyramid — similar numbers in each age group up to the older cohorts, the signature of near-replacement fertility.
