Central America in 1980

As of 1980, Central America counted 90,213,734 inhabitants. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 31.6%, up from 68,527,248 in 1970. The median age was 17.0 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 88.2 children under 15 and 5.7 people aged 65 or over. The pyramid is expansive: its wide base of young cohorts reflects high fertility and a rapidly growing population.
