Central Asia in 1980

The population of Central Asia in 1980 was 41,329,717. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 27.8%, up from 32,339,232 in 1970. The median age was 20.5 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 66.9 children under 15 and 9.3 people aged 65 or over. The pyramid is expansive: its wide base of young cohorts reflects high fertility and a rapidly growing population.
