Eastern Africa Population Pyramid 1982
Eastern Africa in 1982
As of 1982, Eastern Africa counted 155,356,462 inhabitants. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 33.7%, up from 116,188,036 in 1972.
The median age was 16.4 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 94.5 children under 15 and 5.8 people aged 65 or over. This is an expansive pyramid — each cohort of children is larger than the one above it, the signature of high birth rates and rapid growth.
