In 2014, Eastern Africa had a total population of 385,230,737 people. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 32.5%, up from 290,663,234 in 2004.
The median age was 17.6 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 83.3 children under 15 and 5.1 people aged 65 or over. The broad-based, expansive shape of the pyramid points to high fertility and strong population growth.
