As of 2017, Eastern Asia counted 1,651,552,154 inhabitants. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 5.9%, up from 1,559,834,275 in 2007.
Half of the population was younger than 38.4 years; 17.7% were children under 15 and 12.4% were 65 or older. The pyramid is stationary: cohort sizes are roughly even through the younger ages, reflecting fertility close to replacement level and slow population change.
