Europe in 2005

In 2005, Europe had a total population of 732,046,514 people. Ten years earlier, in 1995, the population was nearly the same: 729,380,599. With a median age of 39.0 years, Europe had a youth dependency ratio of 23.4 and an old-age dependency ratio of 23.2 per 100 people of working age. The pyramid is constrictive: cohorts of children are smaller than those of their parents, reflecting low fertility and an ageing population.
