Japan in 2007

As of 2007, Japan counted 128,087,682 inhabitants. That is 1.4% more than in 1997, when the population stood at 126,265,929. Half of the population was younger than 44.2 years; 13.6% were children under 15 and 21.6% were 65 or older. The pyramid is constrictive: cohorts of children are smaller than those of their parents, reflecting low fertility and an ageing population.
