Latin America and the Caribbean in 2005

As of 2005, Latin America and the Caribbean counted 556,212,184 inhabitants. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 15.3%, up from 482,311,060 in 1995. Half of the population was younger than 25.7 years; 29.9% were children under 15 and 6.1% were 65 or older. The pyramid is stationary: cohort sizes are roughly even through the younger ages, reflecting fertility close to replacement level and slow population change.
