In 2023, Least developed countries had a total population of 1,161,055,550 people. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 26.4%, up from 918,462,781 in 2013. Half of the population was younger than 20.2 years; 38.9% were children under 15 and 3.7% were 65 or older. The pyramid is expansive: its wide base of young cohorts reflects high fertility and a rapidly growing population.
