Middle Africa Population Pyramid 1997
Middle Africa in 1997
As of 1997, Middle Africa counted 90,492,710 inhabitants. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 37.3%, up from 65,900,368 in 1987.
Half of the population was younger than 17.2 years; 45.6% were children under 15 and 3.0% were 65 or older. This is an expansive pyramid — each cohort of children is larger than the one above it, the signature of high birth rates and rapid growth.
