In 2000, Northern Africa had a total population of 175,569,257 people. That is 22.7% more than in 1990, when the population stood at 143,118,752. The median age was 21.1 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 62.1 children under 15 and 6.8 people aged 65 or over.
