As of 1980, Northern Europe counted 89,878,240 inhabitants. That is 2.9% more than in 1970, when the population stood at 87,354,936. The median age was 34.0 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 33.2 children under 15 and 22.6 people aged 65 or over.
