Singapore in 1960

In 1960, Singapore had a total population of 1,619,323 people. That is 59.8% more than in 1950, when the population stood at 1,013,314. The median age was 18.2 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 84.4 children under 15 and 4.4 people aged 65 or over. This is an expansive pyramid — each cohort of children is larger than the one above it, the signature of high birth rates and rapid growth.
