Singapore in 1990

As of 1990, Singapore counted 3,039,591 inhabitants. A decade earlier, in 1980, the population was 2,437,493; it has grown by 24.7% since. Half of the population was younger than 29.5 years; 21.4% were children under 15 and 5.6% were 65 or older. The narrow base of the pyramid marks a constrictive age structure: fertility below replacement level and a rising share of older people.
