Southern Europe in 2000

In 2000, Southern Europe had a total population of 145,705,973 people. That is 1.2% more than in 1990, when the population stood at 143,928,610. The median age was 38.2 years, and for every 100 people of working age (15–64) there were 23.4 children under 15 and 24.4 people aged 65 or over. The narrow base of the pyramid marks a constrictive age structure: fertility below replacement level and a rising share of older people.
