Southern Europe in 2018

In 2018, Southern Europe had a total population of 152,755,026 people. Ten years earlier, in 2008, the population was nearly the same: 153,239,912. Half of the population was younger than 44.7 years; 14.2% were children under 15 and 20.8% were 65 or older. The pyramid is constrictive: cohorts of children are smaller than those of their parents, reflecting low fertility and an ageing population.

Share of the population by age group, 1950–2100
