Spain in 2013

As of 2013, Spain counted 46,860,389 inhabitants. Over the previous ten years the population grew by 10.2%, up from 42,506,543 in 2003. Half of the population was younger than 41.7 years; 15.1% were children under 15 and 17.9% were 65 or older. This is a constrictive pyramid — its base is narrower than its middle, the signature of sustained low birth rates and population ageing.

Share of the population by age group, 1950–2100
