Western Europe in 1990

In 1990, Western Europe had a total population of 176,523,787 people. That is 3.5% more than in 1980, when the population stood at 170,536,385. Half of the population was younger than 36.2 years; 17.8% were children under 15 and 14.4% were 65 or older. The pyramid is constrictive: cohorts of children are smaller than those of their parents, reflecting low fertility and an ageing population.
